Just Keep Talking: A Tale of Two Johnnies

Johannes Brahms was an avid walker. In the days before modern footwear, he traipsed all over Germany and Austria, and not just because he wanted to save money on train fare. His distinct walking posture, with his hands clasped behind his back, only made his rather large belly stick out even further, prompting historians to ponder the question: With all those calorie-burning walks, how’d he get so fat?
John Vaughan is an avid talker. In the comfort of modern footwear, he traipses back and forth on stage, gesticulating and pointing out aspects of music that you didn’t even know existed. Joined by three musicians from the NSO, who were probably attracted by the extra pay, John will perform six movements from Brahms works for piano and strings. Like a tour guide working for a big tip, John will mix historical facts with jokes of questionable quality in his mission to make sure that serious music doesn’t get too serious.

約翰‧布拉姆斯是一位熱愛走路的人，在那個沒有氣墊休閒鞋的時代，他經常漫步在德奧地區，並不是他真的想省下火車票錢，而是他太愛走路。布拉姆斯有個獨特的走路姿勢，他會把雙手在背後交叉，挺出他的鮪魚肚，這點讓後來的歷史學者很想問:如果走路是燃燒卡路里的好方法，布拉姆斯怎麼還那麼胖?
約翰‧范德騰是一位熱愛講話的人，在這個有著名牌皮鞋的時代，他總是遊走在表演的舞台上，手舞足蹈的講解著音樂的奧妙。這次的講座音樂會，將會有三位NSO的菁英絃樂家，與鋼琴家范德騰一同演奏布拉姆斯室內樂作品中的六個樂章。就像導遊會盡其所能地，希望可以贏得更多小費一樣，范德騰將使出渾身解數，帶領大家來欣賞一點也不嚴肅的古典音樂。
希望大家可以樓上邀樓下、阿公帶孫子、阿嬤和阿爸，男女老幼一同攜手來欣賞這場布拉姆斯講座音樂會。
